Jacksonville

Cats Cradle left Isle-of-Palms 22 Jan at 0-dark hundred hours to continue south, going outside from Charleston and back in to the ICW through St. Helena's Sound. Still in search of some warmer weather. Our first stop was Beaufort, South Carolina where we were able to meet up with Joe & Peggy for good food and pleasant conversation. We pressed on the next morning again leaving before dawn to miss more bridge restrictions. Decided to stay in the ICW for at least the next 2 days due to a not so nice weather forecast. Of course that put us in Georgia where depths along the waterway are really crappy, yep you got it, we spent some time hard aground, waiting for the assistance of Tow Boat . Sure glad we pay for un-limited towing insurance every year. After some of the worst fog conditions we've seen in years we arrived at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL on the 26th.
This entire trip from Oriental on down has reminded us of why we prefer to travel south in November, the weather conditions have been far from ideal.
The first order of business was to retrieve our generator from Nex-Gen, not hook it up mind you but to get it back on board, that has been accomplished. After doing a few things on base (ID, Commissary, Exchange) the next thing we had to do was move over towards Jacksonville Beach into the Palm Cove Marina on Super Bowl Sunday and be tied up, hooked up prior to kick-off. Bernie was of course elated with the end results of the game.
We settled in at the marina and Bernie has started work setting up the new West Marine store nearby and will be occupied 5 days a week. This weekend we have finally seen more temperate weather and hope the forecasters are correct that the freezes are now behind us for this year.
Yesterday we had a pleasant surprise, looked up and saw a boat name we had not seen for over 8 years. Ray and Bernie from Fire Dog had pulled in, we both have new and bigger boats but luckily their boat name just increased in roman numerals. Had a very pleasant visit with them before they continued on their way this morning.
Scupper and Gilligan are enjoying their daily walks on the dock and probably won't want to leave.
