No Sailing
Our summer months have been different if not interesting this year ! Cats Cradle went in to a marina on the Middle river on the last day of June. On 1 July we drove to Lancaster, PA , we knew that Mom was in the hospital (cardiac problems), her greeting to us when we arrived was " I broke it". Within the hour before we got there she had fallen in her hospital room. X-Rays a few hours later proved her right and there was a fractured hip. Surgery went well, with a pinning of her femur, she recovered well, the cardiac problem seems to have taken a back seat for now. Arrangements were made to go directly to a re-hab hospital. After 2 weeks there we brought her home where she has done very well. Her house is a split-level so the concern was navigating all the stairs, the staff at re-hab taught her well, this past week has seen a progression from walker to a cane.
While all this was going on Bernie has been coming and going, with two weeks in Alexandria, VA closing a West Marine store, and now the last of 3 weeks of a re-build near Atlantic City, NJ.
The end of July Bernie found out that Aberdeen Proving Grounds had a marina, being a military facility the slip rate of course is significantly less expensive so he moved Cats Cradle there for August. She's the biggest boat there by a long shot, but who cares as long as we can get in and out. Only possible problem is when they are doing "live fire" exercises no one traverses the river for a few hours.
Mom's garage has been a great place to finish up a new sail cover and bimini, hope they fit right. We plan to head back to the boat labor day weekend, put her back together and head south for haul-out in the Corrotoman river at Yankee Point Marina, we'll see if we can do just a quick bottom job as we need to be in Hampton, VA the first part of October for another 3 week job for Bernie.
Scupper and Gilligan have become way too comfortable and its definitly time to get back home to Cats Cradle.
