Haul-Out 2007

We are in the Corrotoman River, which is off the Rappahanock River, which is off the Chesapeake Bay. Cats Cradle is out of the water at Yankee Point Sailboat Marina for routine bottom job along with some unplanned work (genset replacement). The engine in the Mase genset (Yanmar) is Tango Uniform with no hope for resuscitation. Rather than replacing the engine(major labor and parts expense), Bernie is replacing the Mase with a NexGen (still a major expense but hopefully more reliable). So we are dirt dwelling again at a very good friends place on Hills Creek. In addition to all that, Gilligan had more medical issues after returning from PA. He is doing better now after a visit to local vet.

After leaving Mom's the end of July we spent about 3 weeks wandering the bay. We did attempt to traverse the Delaware Bay in hopes of making it to at least the Cape May area, alas the currents are sure strong and of course always going against us. A couple of nights east of the C&D canal and back through we came to the Chesapeake. Along the way across and down towards the Corrotoman we had 4 consecutive days of purely great sailing, hard to believe for the month of August. Good things can happen when there is no concrete plan for a few days. A family wedding the end of August had us planning on the annual haul-out, before driving back to Pennsylvannia. The wedding was very nice, the party after was great until a storm came along , blowing down 1 of the tents, no one hurt, no harm done. We had scheduled dental cleaning for the cats the week after, so all together it was another week and a half with Mom again.

We hope to be finished with the genset replacement before the snows fall and be on the way south soon, will update later.
